How many steps per day is normal?
The often-cited 10,000 steps goal was actually a 1960s Japanese marketing campaign for a pedometer. Modern research shows 7,000–8,000 steps/day provides most of the health benefit, with diminishing returns above 10,000.

- 18–29: 7,800 steps/day
- 30–39: 7,000 steps/day
- 40–49: 6,500 steps/day
- 50–59: 5,800 steps/day
- 60–69: 4,800 steps/day
- 70+: 3,500 steps/day
